RASTAFIRE, the only reggae band in the world who was named after it's first CD. That's right folks, Rastafire was the original title of the CD produced by Bobby Dread and published by Veechie Music for the Bay Area reggae band Uprising. This CD released in '93 hit #10 on The Reggae Report's Independent Chart (U.S.) in '94 and a band from the east coast also named Uprising had lawyers sending nasty letters to Bobby Dread demanding that the band no longer call itself Uprising. Since they had legal rights to the name they threatened legal action. Dread made the decision to switch the band name to RASTAFIRE and the CD to Uprising, the east coast outfit was happy and Veechie Music spent a very small sum to notify the public of the change and saved tons on legal fees, and CD cover changes. Since 1988 Rastafire has played throughout Northern California, Nevada and Arizona. They are a very entertaining, well dressed, colorful, reggae dance band, with great vocals and driving riddims. Rastafire has performed with many of Reggae's Top Stars including Joe Higgs, Eek-a-mouse, Black Uhuru, Pato Baton, The Itals and many more in the concert and festival venues.
